Because You Say So!

“Master, we have worked hard all night and caught nothing, but because You say so, I will let down the nets.” -Luke 5:5
🔎Reflection: At the start of his walk with Jesus, Peter displayed profound trust. He surrendered expert knowledge for obedience. It wasn’t about better fishing techniques; it was about yielding to the authority of Jesus Christ. Scripture doesn't elevate Peter's skill; it highlights his submission at the start. Here's the rub: the more Peter walked with Jesus, the more he began to lean on his own understanding (Pr 3:5-6).
🤺Action: Search the Scriptures (Acts 17:11) and ask: Have I replaced desperate dependence with familiarity? Spend time asking the LORD to help you identify areas where you're relying on self—my logic, my abilities, and my preferences—rather than simple, literal obedience to Jesus as the eternal Son of God. Confess the shift in humility and repentance. Submit again. Start, end, and submit every moment of every day with the attitude: "Because You say so."
🙏Prayer: LORD Jesus, expose any prideful confidence I’ve allowed to creep into my life. Help me return to a posture of total obedience and complete trust, like Peter at the beginning. Remind me that the call to follow You isn’t based on DURATION (how long I've been walking with You) or INFORMATION (how much Bible knowledge I've amassed), but only by my ongoing submission and surrender to You as the WORD incarnate! Amen.
