Craving Correction

Updated: Jul 16

📖Scripture: Endure suffering as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? If you do not experience discipline like everyone else, then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. Hebrews 12:7-8

🔎 Reflection: Simon the Sorcerer (Acts 8:9–24) serves as a sobering warning. Though he believed, was baptized, and walked with Philip, his heart remained bound by pride and wickedness. When Peter rebuked him, Simon didn’t confess—he deflected. He asked others to pray for him rather than turning to the LORD in true repentance.

The heart of a mocker stiffens at rebuke (Prov 9:7–8). Mocker-like pride hides beneath spiritual language and selfish religious activity. The heart that belongs to the LORD is broken and contrite—quick to confess, quick to receive correction (Psalm 51:17).

Godly sons and daughters don’t just accept correction—they hunger for it as evidence of the Father's love (Hebrews 12:5–11). The one who is wise listens and grows (Prov 15:31–32); the one who resists correction invites destruction (Prov 29:1). A teachable heart is a guarded heart—a prideful one is an open gate for the enemy (James 4:6–7).

“A wise son heeds his father’s discipline, but a mocker does not listen to rebuke.” – Proverbs 12:1

“Let a righteous man strike me—it is a kindness; let him rebuke me—it is oil for my head…” – Psalm 141:5

“Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline. So be zealous and repent.” – Revelation 3:19

“All Scripture is breathed out by God… for reproof, for correction, and training in righteousness…” – 2 Timothy 3:16

The mark of true spiritual maturity is not flawless living, but a humble, teachable posture before God’s truth.

🤺Action: Where has God convicted you recently through Scripture, a sermon, or a brother/sister in Christ? How did you respond? Today, invite the LORD’s rebuke and correction. Invite a spiritually mature believer to speak truth into your blind spots—and listen without defensiveness.

🙏Prayer: Father, give me a teachable spirit. When Your WORD or Your people correct me, let me not harden my heart like Pharaoh or Simon. Make me wise by making me humble (Phil 2:3-11). Crush my pride and unstop my ears. May Your rebuke sanctify me for Your glory. In Christ, Amen.
