📖Scripture: “Praiseworthy is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ…”
1 Peter 1:3a
🔎Reflection: Before creation, before election, before redemption — the one and only true God, the Holy Triune God of Scripture, was, is, and forever will be praiseworthy… simply because of who God is. The Greek word eulogētos reveals God’s intrinsic, eternal praiseworthiness.
We are challenged and compelled by God’s WORD, the Bible, to grasp and respond to this undeniable truth: even if God had never acted in creation or redemption, His aseity (self-existence) and immutable perfection make Him infinitely worthy of praise (Exod 3:14; Ps 90:2; Rev 4:8–11). Too often, Western “Christianity” treats worship as a transactional response to our circumstances — blessings received, prayers answered, comfort given. Authentic biblical praise is anchored in WHO God is, not in what He does.
To anchor our praise and worship to benefits and blessings rather than God's being is to pervert praise into performance-based manipulation (Isa 29:13; Mal 1:6–8). The Apostles Peter and Paul, and even the Old Testament Prophet Habakkuk, all testify that the true people of God glory in His name regardless of whether the “fig tree blossoms” or the “fields yield food” (Hab 3:17–19; Eph 1:3; 2 Cor 1:3). Authentic Christianity heralds: God is worthy simply because He is God. His character, not our circumstances, drives our adoration, worship, and praise.
🤺Action: We are challenged to examine our hearts today: is our praise and worship exclusively tethered to God’s unchanging glory or shifting situations and fleeting circumstances? Confess and repent of times when you’ve withheld praise, worship, and adoration because God didn’t “perform” up to your standards or liking.
🙏Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are holy and worthy beyond measure. Forgive me for times when I've treated praise and worship as a transaction or obligation. Holy Spirit, please teach me to put the first things first - always delighting in You rather than basing praise on my expectations, perceptions, experiences, circumstances, or blessings. Almighty God, please fix my eyes on You and Your eternal glory in Christ Jesus. Let my lips ever proclaim Your praiseworthiness simply because of who You are! I pray all this in the sweet and glorious name of Jesus, Amen.
