He took the bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body, given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you."
-Luke 22:19-20
🍷 The Last Supper:
The Last Supper wasn’t about instituting a religious ritual, sacrament, or ordinance. It was the culmination of the entire redemptive story—from Genesis to Revelation, from Passover to Gethsemane, from Moses to Messiah... and an INVITATION.
On the night He was betrayed, Jesus wasn’t just sharing a meal… He was revealing the fulfillment of everything the Law, the Prophets, and the Writings pointed to. Whether you are Jewish and exploring the claims of Yeshua as Messiah, or a follower of Jesus longing to see the full depth of the story, what happened that night in the upper room was no ordinary supper. It was a declaration by the eternal Son of God:
“I am the sinless, spotless, and sufficient Lamb of God.”
“I am your High Priest.”
“I am the KING of kings and LORD of lords.”
“I am the ONLY Way, Truth, and LIFE and your salvation.”
🐑 Passover: The Blood of the Lamb
In Exodus 12, God commanded every Israelite household to sacrifice a spotless lamb and apply its blood to their doorposts so the angel of death would “pass over” them.
The lamb had to be without blemish.
Its blood had to be personally applied.
Its death was substitutionary—the lamb died so the firstborn could live.
And for generations, the Jewish people remembered that night by celebrating Passover, not just to recall their deliverance from slavery and bondage in Egypt, but to remember that God delivers us from slavery and bondage to sin by the blood of the Lamb of God.
Fast forward to the ministry of Jesus, where John the Baptist declared:
“Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” — John 1:29
Jesus didn’t just celebrate Passover. He fulfilled it. He became the once-for-all Passover Lamb—spotless, sinless, willingly slain. His blood wasn’t smeared on a doorpost—it was poured out on a cross. And everyone who allows His blood by faith to cover their rebellion and sin—they are delivered and covered perfectly! Not merely from God's righteous judgment upon the nation of Egypt, but from God eternal judgment and unending wrath upon sin.
🕊 Day of Atonement: The Sin Offering and the Scapegoat
Jesus didn’t only fulfill the Passover. He also fulfilled Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16), where two goats were used:
One goat was sacrificed—a sin offering, its blood sprinkled to atone for Israel’s sin.
The other—the scapegoat—was sent into the wilderness, carrying the sins of the people far away.
At the Cross, Jesus became both.
He was the sin offering, slain to satisfy the justice of God.
He was the scapegoat, bearing the weight of our sins, forsaken, abandoned, cut off—so we never would be.
“The LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” — Isaiah 53:6
“He suffered outside the camp.” — Hebrews 13:12
🔥 The Fulfillment of the Entire Hebrew Bible
Jesus is not the founder of a new religion. He is the fulfillment of all that God began in Genesis.
Let’s walk through just a few of the ancient pictures and prophecies He became the perfect fulfillment of:
Genesis 3:15 – The Serpent Crusher, promised after the Fall... Jesus.
Genesis 6–9 – The true Ark of Salvation, rescuing us from wrath and judgment... Jesus.
Genesis 15 & 22 – The Covenant Keeper and Sacrificial Substitute... Jesus.
Genesis 49:10 – The Shiloh of Judah, to whom the obedience of the nations belongs... Jesus.
Exodus & Leviticus – The Tabernacle, the High Priest, and the ultimate sacrifice... Jesus.
2 Samuel 7 – The Son of David, whose throne is eternal... Jesus.
Isaiah 42, 49, 53 – The Suffering Servant, Light to the Gentiles, and Sin Bearer... Jesus.
Daniel 7 – The Son of Man, given all dominion and glory forever... Jesus.
Psalm 110 – The Priest forever after the order of Melchizedek... Jesus.
Zechariah 9:9 – The humble King, riding on a donkey... Jesus.
Jesus didn’t abolish the Law, Prophets, and Hebrew Scriptures—He fulfilled them (Matthew 5:17). The Last Supper was His living sermon:
“Everything you’ve been waiting for… it’s Me.” — King Jesus
🧼🍷 The Lamb, High Priest, Some Bread, and A Basin:
That night, He took bread and said:
“This is My body, given for you.”
He took the cup and said:
“This is My blood of the new covenant…”
But John’s Gospel, interestingly, doesn’t include that moment. Instead, we see something even more personal.
“He rose from supper… took a towel… and began to wash His disciples’ feet.” — John 13:4–5
No specifics regarding the Passover meal. No bread and wine. Just a basin, a towel, and our Savior, God the Son, stooping down to wash nasty, dirty, filthy feet. Why? Because King Jesus didn’t come to institute rituals—He came to give Himself away. The bread and cup symbolize His self-giving love. The towel and basin demonstrate it.
“Do you understand what I have done for you? … I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.” — John 13:12,15
⚠️ The Real Tragedy: Ritual Without Regeneration
Too many churches have turned the Lord’s Supper into a religious ritual & performance, just like Israel did with the temple sacrifices. Jesus didn’t come to give us external rituals that leave our hearts unchanged. He came to supernaturally cleanse and transform us... not our physical feet—our souls.
The Pharisees had rituals without repentance.
Many today have ceremonies without conversion.
King Jesus calls us to transformation, not traditions.
Some preach Jesus while endorsing drag shows, sexual immorality, and false gospels—blaspheming the One they claim to serve. Jesus came not to endorse our sin or affirm our rebellion, but to redeem us from it. Not to polish our religious routines—but to wash us clean as only the LIVING WORD can!
✝️ The Last Supper Is a Call to Follow the Lamb
So what now? The Last Supper isn’t a one-time event to re-enact. It’s an invitation to a supernaturally regenerate and redeemed life:
To give ourselves away, just as He gave His body away.
To pour ourselves out, just as He poured out His blood.
To serve one another with humility and joy, just as He humbled Himself.
To walk in obedience and surrender as members of Christ's Body & Bride.
🙏 Conclusion: Washed, Filled, and Sent
Jesus says in John 13:8,
“Unless I wash you, you have no part with Me.”
That’s not just about feet. That’s about the soul. It's not about being washed by stoykeon (fundamental principles of the world), i.e., the hollow philosophies, empty deceit, and "reasonable" stuff of the world. We don’t need ceremony—we need THE WORD and to be washed by Him. We need the Holy Spirit and to be regenerated, redeemed, filled, sealed, and sanctified by Him. Our King calls us as disciples, servants, saints, ambassadors, and emissaries into a depraved, broken, and hurting world. Not to teach them our ceremonies, rituals, and human traditions... but to teach them to obey everything Christ commanded! That's when He promises to be with us to the very end.
“And surely I AM (YAHWEH) with you (IMMANUEL) always, to the very end of the age.” — Matthew 28:20
King Jesus doesn't make that promise because we got our ritual right, but because we're demonstrating obedience, surrender, and total abandon to our Creator and King.
Behold the Lamb of God...
Bow to the King...
Pick up your towel in humility...
Follow in obedience...
Wherever He leads, go...
Even to the very end.
